Passenger traffic at Athens International Airport marked a significant rise in July, paving the way for a robust recovery and growth in the aviation sector.
According to the latest statistical data from Athens International Airport, passenger traffic for July 2024 reached an impressive 3.61 million. This represents a 9.3% increase compared to July 2023, indicating a strong rebound and growing demand for air travel.
The increase was seen in both domestic and international passenger traffic, with domestic traffic up by 5.9% and international traffic by 10.8% over the same period last year.
In total, for the first seven months of 2024, the airport handled 17.62 million passengers, showcasing a significant 14.6% rise compared to the same period in 2023. This growth trend highlights the continued recovery of the aviation industry post-pandemic, driven by a resurgence in both leisure and business travel.
Domestic passenger traffic for this period increased by 8.0%, while international passenger traffic saw an even more substantial rise of 17.6%.
Flight operations also mirrored this upward trend.
The total number of flights at Athens International Airport for the first seven months of 2024 was 150,344, reflecting a 12.4% increase from the same timeframe in 2023. This includes a 5.5% rise in domestic flights and a significant 17.8% increase in international flights, demonstrating the airport's growing role as a major hub in the region.
