Firefighters extinguished a major blaze at Marina Zeas in Piraeus early Friday morning after it engulfed three luxury yachts, causing substantial damage.
The fire, which broke out late Thursday, prompted a large-scale response from firefighting crews who worked tirelessly to contain the flames and prevent further damage.
During the incident, one firefighter was hospitalized for breathing problems.
The Coast Guard successfully rescued ten people from the pier who were unable to return to Marina Zeas due to the fire.
As of Friday morning, 26 firefighters, along with 10 vehicles, three Coast Guard boats, and a fire department vessel, remain on scene to continue monitoring the situation. The cause of the fire, which reportedly started on one yacht before spreading to the others, is still under investigation. There were also reports of explosions during the incident.
One of the damaged yachts is believed to be a commercial tourist vessel.
Authorities said there were no reports of people trapped in the yacht. on any of the yachts. The Coast Guard, fire department, and private divers are collaborating to assess and address any potential water pollution resulting from the fire.
