A major wildfire continues to burn in the forested area near Geraki, Ilia, as firefighters work tirelessly to contain the flames.

The blaze, which erupted earlier today, has already caused significant damage and forced evacuations in the region.

Hundreds of firefighters, supported by aerial units and heavy machinery, are battling the fire. Despite their efforts, the situation remains challenging due to the dry conditions and the rugged terrain.

A 35-year-old firefighter from the 6th EMODE unit sustained serious injuries while fighting the blaze and was airlifted to a hospital for treatment.

Authorities have issued emergency alerts to residents in nearby areas, urging them to evacuate or remain on high alert. The fire has forced the closure of roads and disrupted daily life in the region.

Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vasilis Kikilias, has visited the area to oversee the firefighting efforts. He has also ordered an investigation into the cause of the fire.

The wildfire in Geraki is just one of several that have broken out in the Ilia region today. Firefighters are also battling blazes in Panopoulos, Nea Manolada, and other areas.

As the situation continues to evolve, authorities are urging residents to follow the instructions of local officials and to be prepared for potential power outages or other disruptions.
