Following the fatal case of meningitis involving a 20-year-old student, the University of Patras announced that "in cooperation with the National Public Health Organization and Public Health, the protocol for managing the situation was implemented and all measures were taken for the safety of those involved."
Specifically, according to the University, "in cooperation with the competent health authorities, all students who were enrolled in the same room with the 20-year-old student, as well as all staff who came into close contact with him, were called to the main auditorium on campus in the Koukouli area, where they received chemoprophylaxis by the Public Health team."
As mentioned in the same statement, all areas of the University where the student may have been present have been decontaminated. "For psychological reasons, the exams scheduled for January 28 and 29 have been cancelled and rescheduled on February 13 and 14."
According to the University, instructions were immediately sent to students, staff, and members of the department on the symptoms of meningitis and precautionary measures.
