The United Nations has confirmed that an informal trilateral meeting on the Cyprus issue will take place in New York this October.
Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, confirmed the meeting during a response to a question from the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA).
Mr. said that the gathering will include the leaders of the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities, along with the UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
"The date of the informal meeting will be announced soon," he added.
During recent bilateral meetings held in New York, Mr. Guterres extended the invitation to Nikos Christodoulides, the leader of the Greek Cypriot community, and Ersin Tatar, the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community, to engage in an informal discussion about the future of the Cyprus issue.
Both leaders have accepted the invitation, and the date will be confirmed in due course, Dujarric noted.
The meeting represents a continued effort by the United Nations to foster dialogue and explore pathways towards resolving the long-standing division of Cyprus.
