In a surprising turn of events, two traditional Greek dishes have found themselves on Taste Atlas's list of the 100 worst-rated dishes in the world.
This comes as a shock to many, as Greece was recently ranked as having the best cuisine globally by the same culinary guide.
The two dishes in question are artichoke salad, a Cretan specialty, and bourboureliá, a hearty legume soup.
Artichoke salad, typically served as an appetizer during Lent, features tender artichokes with a lemon and olive oil dressing. Bourboureliá, more common in Kefalonia, is a rustic soup made with a variety of legumes.
While these dishes hold cultural and historical significance in Greece, they seem to have fallen short of impressing Taste Atlas's global community of food enthusiasts.
The artichoke salad landed in 30th place on the list, while bourboureliá came in at 74th.
The top spot on the "worst dishes" list went to Blodpalt from Finland, a dark brown dumpling made with animal blood.
Despite this unexpected ranking, Greek cuisine remains highly regarded worldwide.
The country's diverse and flavorful offerings continue to be celebrated by food lovers globally, and this minor setback does not diminish Greece's culinary reputation.
The inclusion of these two dishes on the list simply highlights the subjective nature of taste and the vast diversity of culinary preferences across the globe.
While some may find these traditional Greek dishes unappealing, they remain an important part of Greece's culinary heritage and continue to be enjoyed by many.
