The U.S. President has praised Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for his proposal to pursue a mutually beneficial trade agreement between the United States and the European Union, suggesting a possible shift in stance on tariffs.
Earlier, Mr. Mitsotakis emphasized the need for a "win-win solution" on trade that would benefit both sides.
"There is room to find a mutually advantageous outcome. That has always been my belief, even before tariffs were announced. There is still time for negotiations before any major retaliatory measures are considered," the prime minister said.
Responding to questions in the White House garden, the U.S. President welcomed the remarks and offered personal praise for the Greek leader.
"I agree. I know him, he's a good man," the President said.
"I appreciate his comments. Yes, a deal can be made with anyone who wants to negotiate on tariffs. A deal can be made with China too. There will be fair deals with everyone."
The comments come as tensions over transatlantic trade policies remain a point of concern for both Washington and Brussels, with leaders on both sides seeking ways to avoid further economic friction.
