A truck driver from Ukraine who was involved in a fatal accident on midday Tuesday at the Polymylos toll station near Kozani was led before the prosecutor of Kozani shortly after 18:00, accompanied by police cars.

The man, 38, was being held in Veria, and was prosecuted for reckless driving resulting in a fatal accident, aggravated manslaughter and aggravated assault causing bodily injury.

He was referred to an investigator, where he was granted a request to testify at 12:00 noon on Holy Friday (April 18).

According to information, the man appears to claim a car tried to cut in as he was ready to go through the toll station, and he took a sharp turn to avoid him, leading to the accident. He will be detained until his testimony. The man is a father of two children and lives in Bulgaria.

The multiple crash involving the truck and three private cars on Egnatia Odos caused the death of 2 people and the injury of another 5. Three of them were discharged from the Kozani Hospital on Wednesday while the other two are expected to be discharged from the Veria Hospital on Thursday.
