The draft law of the Ministry of Tourism on short-term rental properties, the procedure for the establishment of tourism businesses and the environmental classification of accommodations will be discussed and put to vote in Hellenic Parliament, οn Thursday.
Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni told the Parliaments' Standing Committee on Production and Trade that the bill aims to strengthen Greece's position as a top quality destination. "With coordinated efforts and innovative actions, Greece continues to lead the way, offering reliable, safe and quality hospitality services," she said.
On short-term rentals, Kefalogianni stressed that despite the opposition's agreement on the need to institutionalize rules, there was no positive reference to the government's initiatives to ensure quality and safety in the hospitality sector.
She pointed out that the new provisions serve the overall improvement of the tourism experience more broadly, and have received positive comments even from international booking platforms."Kefalogianni emphasized that environmental responsibility is a key aspect of the bill. She also referred to measures such as regulating the classification of tourist accommodations based on environmental performance and promoting the use of seawater in swimming pools, a practice already widely adopted in the Mediterranean to conserve water resources.
