Despite a slight dip in July’s tourism revenue compared to last year, Greece's tourism industry remains on track for a record-breaking year.
While the overall revenue for the month was €180 million lower than in 2022, the cumulative revenue for the first seven months of the year still stands at €550 million higher than the same period last year.
A key factor contributing to this optimism is the extended tourist season.
Travelers are increasingly choosing to visit Greece outside of the traditional summer months, taking advantage of lower prices and fewer crowds. This trend has been particularly evident in recent weeks, with international arrivals increasing by 7% in the second week of September compared to last year.
Another positive development is the growing demand for alternative destinations. Travelers, especially from Germany and Italy, are seeking out smaller, quieter islands such as Koufonisia, Samothraki, Alonissos, and Ikaria. These islands offer unique experiences for tourists looking for tranquility and natural beauty.
While the decline in July's revenue may have raised some concerns, the overall outlook for Greek tourism remains positive. With continued strong arrivals, an extended season, and increasing interest in alternative destinations, the country is well-positioned to surpass its initial projection of €21 billion in tourism revenue for the year.
