Syriza leader Stefanos Kasselakissaid his party was dedicate dto “humility and inclusivity”, coupled with a merit-based approach to membership.
Speaking on TV100, Mr. Kasselakis highlighted the party’s resolve to diminish its perceived arrogance. In an opinion piece in the Athens daily “Efimerida ton Syntakton,” the leftist leader outlined his vision for Syriza as “the democratic force of the nation, uniting the center-left under a contemporary leftist agenda.”
He underscored the party’s financial independence and its ambition to be the unifying democratic faction. Mr. Kasselakis disclosed anticipated organisational reforms at Syriza’s constitutional congress slated for autumn. He expressed hopes for a diverse congress attendance, extending an invitation to progressive individuals from various sectors, including non-participants.
He said he also planned to engage leaders from different fields who align with the party’s principles, suggesting potential collaboration in alternate circumstances.
Addressing the European elections, the leftist leader said Syriza was bent on reshaping Europe towards reduced austerity, increased climate adaptation funding, and a forthright stance on Palestine. He emphasised the significance of public awareness of Syriza’s policies, such as advocating for zero VAT on staples like bread and milk, which he deemed both viable and essential for the nation.
On foreign policy, Mr. Kasselakis lashed out at what he billed the ruling New Democracy party’s inconsistent position regarding the Prespa Agreement and related protocols with North Macedonia, urging the prime minister and conservative leader to clarify his stance.
