Tensions flared within Syriza’s Political Secretariat meeting as prominent member Pavlos Polakis has openly challenged the leadership of Stefanos Kasselakis.
Mr. Polakis expressed doubts about Mr. Kasselakis' ability to navigate the party through the current political climate and declared his willingness to contribute to potential changes.
The meeting further escalated when eight members, including high-profile figures like Olga Gerovasili and Alekos Flambouraris, staged a walkout in protest.
The group, known as the "Group of 87," released a statement criticizing the leadership's lack of transparency and handling of party resources.
Mr. Kasselakis responded defiantly, asserting that any leadership challenge should occur at the Central Committee and vowing not to abandon the party.
While he promised to address Polakis's concerns regarding the Linou investigation, he took a harsher stance against the Group of 87, accusing them of undermining the party and challenging their commitment to Syriza.
The incident reveals deep divisions within Syriza, as the party grapples with its future direction and leadership.
