Syriza leader Stefanos Kasselakis has sharply criticized Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for allegedly downplaying the government's failures in crisis management during a recent ministerial meeting.
Mr. Kasselakis accused the Prime Minister of trying to spin the narrative of "continuous improvement" in handling disasters, despite what he views as significant shortcomings in the response to the recent fires that ravaged parts of Athens and other areas.
Mr. Mitsotakis stressed the growing challenges posed by worsening climate conditions.
"We strive to improve every year, even as the circumstances become increasingly difficult."
He expressed satisfaction at the response of Civil Protection forces and highlighted the improved coordination among various agencies and services.
"This represents a significant achievement for the functioning of the state and its structures," he said.
