Disillusionment with Donald Trump’s return to power has fueled an extraordinary surge in U.S. demand for property in Greece, with many Americans eyeing the Mediterranean country as a haven amid domestic political shifts.

Data from real estate and investment firms reveal a sharp spike in interest from U.S. buyers immediately following the recent presidential election, suggesting a direct link between Trump’s victory and the rising trend.

Elxis – At Home in Greece, a company specializing in holiday home transactions, reported a tenfold increase in U.S. visitors to its website in the two weeks after the election compared to the same period in 2023.

The number of requests for property viewings also quadrupled compared to October, signaling that the election results served as a significant catalyst.

“Since the beginning of the year, we’ve seen three to six times more American interest compared to last year,” said Elxis CEO George Gavriilidis.

“But after the election, the acceleration has been remarkable.”

This surge aligns with broader migration patterns noted by top investment immigration firms.

Henley & Partners observed a 400% increase in property searches by U.S. citizens in the week after the election, while Astons reported that Greece accounted for half of all residence permit applications submitted by its U.S. clients.

The trend underscores a growing desire among Americans to relocate to Europe, with Greece emerging as a key destination due to its relative affordability, quality of life, and access to the European Union’s free movement privileges.

In 2024, 12.3% of Elxis’ clientele were U.S. citizens, and projections suggest this figure could rise in 2025, making Americans the third-largest group of foreign buyers after Germans and Dutch nationals. Meanwhile, Astons reported that more than 4,000 Americans opted to settle abroad between January and September this year, with a significant number choosing Greece.

This unprecedented interest in Greek real estate reflects not only political dissatisfaction but also a broader reevaluation of lifestyle priorities by U.S. citizens, as the allure of European residency continues to grow.
