The ruling New Democracy party has established a commanding lead, increasing its gains ahead of European elections and securing 32.3 percent of voter’s support here, according to the latest Metron Analysis poll.
The count marks a strong 16.9 percentage point lead against the main opposition Syriza party. It also shows rising support for New Democracy, measured at 31.4 percent in Metron Analysis’ previous poll to 32.3%.
The poll shows Syriza also gaining some traction, inching up about half a point to 15.4 percent as support for the socialist PASOK dipped a full point to12 percent.
Smaller parties also appeared to be gaining support with the newly-found Democrats inching to to percent and the New Left to 3.1%. The hardline communist KKE party marked a slip, as did hard right Greek Solution.
In calibrating voters' intent, the poll showed New Democracy clearing ahead with 26.8 percent, followed by Syriza at 12.8 percent and PASOK at 9.9 percent.
The polls also showed New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis being widely regarded as the most suitable for the prime minister, receiving a 35 percent approval rating. Stefanos Kasselakis marked a distant second at 9 percent, followed by Konstantinos Velopoulos and Nikos. Androulakis, both at 5 percent.
Mr. Mitsotakis ranked the most popular politician, soaking up 41 percent of the support of those polled, narrowly edging Communist leader Dimitris Koutsoumbas at 40 percent. Zoe Konstantopoulou and Mr. Androulakis clinched 36 percent and 33 percent respectively.
This poll reflects a snapshot of the current political sentiment in Greece, capturing the public’s perspective as the country prepares to cast its votes in the forthcoming European elections.
