The Greek government's "Spiti Mou II" housing program has seen a surge in interest, with nearly 50,000 households initiating the application process.
As of Sunday evening, 48,086 applications for eligibility certificates had been submitted through the gov.gr platform, demonstrating significant enthusiasm for the program.
The application process, which began on January 15, involves several stages.
Prospective participants must submit their applications to a financial institution of their choice, along with the necessary documentation.
A key requirement is obtaining an Eligibility Certificate, which can be generated via the gov.gr platform using their TAXIS credentials.
Once submitted, each applicant is assigned a unique application number, and the system informs them of the outcome of the eligibility check within a few days. Successful applicants then print and submit the certificate to their bank.
While being classified as eligible by the platform does not guarantee acceptance into the program, final decisions are made by the financial institution following a thorough evaluation of the applicant's documents and the chosen property.
Properties selected by participants must include an Electronic Property ID, which helps streamline the legal and technical review processes and is mandatory for the sales contract.
After an applicant selects a property, the bank has 30 days to verify that it meets the program's criteria. If approved, the applicant is notified and granted 90 days to complete the purchase.
During this period, the bank performs legal and technical evaluations. Once these are completed successfully, the applicant signs the final purchase contract and enters into a loan agreement with the bank.
Applicants should note that they are responsible for covering various additional costs, such as fees for legal and technical checks, and expenses related to registering liens on the purchased property.
These include charges for court orders, mortgage registration, and associated administrative procedures.
With applications nearing the 50,000 mark, the "Spiti Mou II" program is emerging as a major pathway for families across Greece to achieve homeownership. Its organized and transparent framework aims to make the dream of owning a home accessible to more citizens while ensuring a smooth process for all involved.
