Harrowing revelations have come to light surrounding the case of a contract journalist employed by the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT) who stands accused of assault by his partner.
According to sources, the victim—also a contract journalist at ERT—arrived at the Omonia Police Department on Tuesday to file a complaint against her alleged assailant.
She backed her accusations with a medical report from a state hospital, KAT, indicating that she has sustained serious facial fractures from assault.
Despite seeking recourse with police, the journalist is said to have continued to harass the young reporter, making threatening phone calls and sending messages.
Ahead of the alleged assault, the 30-year-old victim is said to have told him to leave their home. The arrested journalist, a father of two, is currently estranged from his wife.
Following the complaint against him, ERT promptly suspended his contract duties, as decided by ERT President Konstantinos Zoulas.
Sources close to the victims said ERT colleagues encouraged the young woman to come forward with her allegations.
Mr. Zoulas stated: “As soon as ERT was informed of the incident of domestic violence involving a contract employee against his partner, also a contract worker at ERT, we suspended the contract of the alleged perpetrator until the case is clarified and justice is served.”
The incident is the latest of a surging number of cases of domestic abuse gripping Greece.
