A security camera in Crete has captured a violent brawl at a bar, leaving a Greek-Canadian man hospitalized with severe injuries.
The footage, released by Cretalive.gr, shows the man leaving the bar with his family when he was accidentally burned by a cigarette from a local. The incident quickly escalated, with the man confronting the individual and others getting involved before moving outside the bar.
The Greek-Canadian was seen being beaten by at least three men, suffering serious head injuries. He was rushed to Venizeleio Hospital, where he underwent extensive surgery and received 60 stitches. He is currently recovering from the attack. Details of the victim were not disclosed.
Canadian Ambassador Anna-Karine Asselin visited the victim in the hospital and met with his family to offer support. She also met with local police in Heraklion to discuss the progress of the investigation. Two of the attackers have been identified but remain at large.
The incident has sparked outrage and concern over the safety of tourists and locals alike. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
