Search efforts to locate BBC presenter Michael Mosley in Symi continued Friday with authorities scouring the Pedi area, where the television personality was reportedly last seen.
Greece ERT public broadcaster has revealed a witness account claiming to have spotted Dr. Mosley before his disappearance.
According to the witness, who spoke to state television, Dr. Mosley was seen talking to an elderly individual next to a rubbish bin, accompanied by another person.
“At 14:20, I left my house to go to the rooms and saw him next to the garbage bins talking to someone, somewhat elderly,” the witness initially described.
“The other person next to him was wearing a very thin plaid shirt,” she continued.
She said she had seen him before his disappearance became public.
Concerns about Dr. Mosley’s whereabouts grew late Wednesday when he failed to return from the beach, prompting his spouse, Dr. Clare Bailey, to notify the authorities. It is presumed that Dr. Mosley, 67, disappeared en route to his lodging in Pedi from a nearby beach in St Nicholas, roughly one kilometer away.
Senior police official Constantina Dimoglidou stated, “The fire department has been called upon to aid in the search, considering the possibility that he might have fallen, sustained an injury, or even been bitten by a snake. We have found no sign of him, which keeps all potential scenarios under consideration.”
Officials said a special helicopter had joined in the search and a police dog was due to arrive on the island on Friday to help in the operation.
Efforts to retrace Dr. Mosley’s path commenced on Wednesday evening along St Nicholas Beach on the island of Symi, yet he remains unlocated. The search expanded on Thursday with the deployment of drones and a rescue team. An appeal for information was broadcasted through a local Symi Facebook group, accompanied by a photo of Dr. Mosley clad in a blue polo, cap, and sunglasses.
