Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will travel to Cairo to participate in the 10th Trilateral Summit involving Greece, Egypt, and Cyprus.
The high-level meeting underscores the strategic importance of collaboration among the three nations, which have positioned themselves as a stabilizing axis in the face of regional and global challenges.
The summit will bring together Mr. Mitsotakis, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides.
The leaders are expected to reaffirm the significance of their partnership in promoting stability and addressing issues reshaping the Middle East. Before the summit officially begins, Mr. Mitsotakis will hold a private meeting with Mr. El-Sisi to discuss bilateral matters and regional developments.
Against the backdrop of an evolving Middle Eastern landscape and the continued instability in Syria, the discussions will emphasize enhancing cooperation across a range of sectors.
Particular attention will be given to energy and energy security, with a focus on the GREGY electricity interconnection project.
The ambitious initiative aims to position Greece as a vital energy link between Egypt and Europe, contributing to greater energy resilience in the region.
The summit will also address regional issues, notably the situation in Syria.
Mr. Mitsotakis is expected to reiterate Greece’s commitment to fostering an inclusive process involving all Syrian stakeholders. He will stress the importance of the new Syrian leadership adhering to international law and safeguarding the rights of all religious and ethnic minorities, underscoring Greece’s broader advocacy for peace and stability in the region.
The visit marks Mr. Mitsotakis’ return to Cairo following his trip in March 2024.
During that visit, he joined European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and other European leaders to finalize the EU-Egypt Strategic and Partnership Agreement.
Greece was instrumental in advancing the agreement, emphasizing Egypt’s pivotal role in ensuring regional stability and its critical contribution to managing migratory flows into Europe.
