The strength of Greeks "emanates from the unbreakable unity and solidarity, elements particularly valuable in today's unpredictable era of crises and challenges," President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou said on Monday in her holiday message to Greeks abroad.
In her message on the occasion of Christmas and New Year, Sakellaropoulou said that "Greece embraces Greeks everywhere in the world as an inseparable part of its national existence, recognizing their vital contribution to its progress and prosperity. She underlined the gratitude of the Greek state to the diaspora for its "contribution in maintaining our ideals, and in our timeless promotion of our heritage to the world."
At the same time, the Greek president added that "Greece builds bridges of friendship with states and peoples, setting out an extroversion path that promotes regional collaboration and development, while safeguarding its non-negotiable national rights."
Sakellaropoulou referred also to Greece's elected position as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the coming two years. She said this confers on Greece a sense of responsibility, while it also marks Greece's unwavering commitment and its tireless and sustained efforts that will lead to the predominance of security and peace in the world. "In this, its creative path in the globalized environment we live, Greece always looks forward to the active engagement of Greek communities" abroad, the president said.
