A preliminary report on the yacht fire involving Kazakhstani magnates off Hydra has exposed significant negligence and abuse of power by fire service and port authority officials.
The report, revealed by local broadcaster SKAI, implicates the chief fire officer of the Arson Crimes Department and several Hydra Port Authority officials.
The investigation found that the Galatas Fire Service failed to respond adequately to the fire. What is more, the Hydra Port Authority received information suggesting possible crew or passenger involvement, yet failed to detain the yacht or conduct a thorough investigation.
Further damning evidence shows the chief fire officer conducted only briefly examining the 10 Kazakh magnates on board before allowing them to leave on a private flight.
The findings point to serious procedural failures and raise questions about the integrity of the investigation.
Further scrutiny and potential legal actions are expected to follow.
