A 55-year-old foreign national has been arrested for forgery after converting his apartment into a fully equipped laboratory for producing counterfeit travel documents.
The suspect is facing charges of forgery, forgery of documents and possession/distribution of proceeds from criminal activity.
According to the Hellenic Police, the suspect was spotted on Monday in central Athens riding a motorcycle, where authorities seized two counterfeit Greek passports from his possession.
Further investigations at two residences revealed a fully operational lab dedicated to the production of fake travel documents. The police estimate that the illegal financial gain from distributing the counterfeit documents exceeds 350,000 euros. The arrested individual has been brought before the competent prosecutor.
