Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met on Wednesday with visiting European Commission Executive Vice-President for Prosperity and Industrial Strategy Stéphane Séjourné and discussed issues related to deepening the single market and increasing the European Union's competitiveness.
At the meeting at Maximos Mansion, they exchanged views on these topics and emphasized the simplification of procedures and the improvement of the European business environment. They also discussed issues related to the EU's strategy on critical raw materials, as well as the green transition of strategic sectors in the European economy in a way that is friendly to competitiveness.
In the opening comments, Mitsotakis said "there's a lot of topics to discuss, you have a broad mandate" because of the European Commission official's wide range of responsibilities, while he noted that Greece had a lot of progress to report in its economy.
Séjourné noted that it was a good time to talk about the single market because it offered a lot of opportunities for development. It is time the Europeans took a new step forward in the single market, he underlined.
Europe needs Greece
In a post on X following the meeting, Séjourné thanked Mitsotakis for his warm welcome and added, "Europe needs Greece. It needs its clean industry leaders, its strong investments in critical raw materials supply, and its push for a strong, simple, efficient single market."
The European Commission recently approved 47 strategic projects in 13 EU countries including Greece that relate to mining and processing of rare earths and critical raw materials needed by the EU economy.
