Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in his speech on Thursday evening at an event focused on the functioning of the executive state, emphasized that "governing is an extremely complex process. However, standardization, normalization, rules, and procedures make our lives a little easier, bringing order to chaos and addressing the ongoing need for continuous problem management."
Mitsotakis highlighted that regular Cabinet meetings and public consultations have transformed the Cabinet into a "real tool for collective policymaking." He stressed that Cabinet meetings are not merely formal approvals of decisions made at other levels of authority, stating, "They are truly collective consultation bodies."
He also mentioned a mechanism for intergovernmental accountability and monitoring of government work, which he considers essential and aligned with the core principles of good governance and management.
Mitsotakis noted that the legislative process followed by the Hellenic Parliament is recognized by international organizations, pointing to public consultation as a significant factor in shaping laws.
"Consultation matters only to show citizens that their comments are genuinely considered, if deemed necessary. It is not merely a formal process or a prerequisite for passing a bill, but a living process where citizens' comments—especially those most interested in specific issues—are taken seriously. The discipline imposed by the President regarding parliamentary deviations, which in the past tended to become the norm, has changed," Mitsotakis said.
He also referred to the emphasis on training and staffing the public administration with new civil servants.
