Pasok has accused the Greek government of inconsistent messaging regarding the potential sale of Meteor missiles from France to Turkey, citing recent comments by Defense Minister Mr. Nikos Dendias.
In a statement, Pasok argued that the government was presenting conflicting positions on the issue.
Pasok referred to an interview in which Prime Minister Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis told journalist Antonis Sroiter that he was unaware of any decision regarding the missile sale and suggested that Mr. Dendias's meeting with the French ambassador might have been "preventive."
However, Pasok pointed to comments by Mr. Dendias in a separate interview with Real News, in which the minister contradicted the Prime Minister.
Mr. Dendias stated that he had expressed serious concerns to the French ambassador and had “informed all the relevant parties” about the situation.
Pasok questioned the government’s unified stance on the matter, asking, “Does the government have one position or two? One from the Prime Minister, who downplays the issue, and another from the Minister of Defense, who appears to recognize it as a real concern?
Who is responsible for the country’s foreign policy—the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Ministry of Defense?”
The statement concluded by accusing the government of deepening its credibility crisis on critical defense and international issues.
“New Democracy threatens to turn its internal problems into national deadlocks. We will not allow it,” Pasok said.
