A shocking case of alleged child abuse has come to light, with a parliamentary police officer accused of raping his own children.
The complaint was filed by his wife, also a police officer, who endured years of terror in her own home before finally coming forward.
The officer is accused of sexually assaulting his three daughters, starting when they were just five years old, and engaging in disturbing behavior with his son. The abuse is alleged to have occurred from 2016 until November of this year.
Despite the horrors unfolding in her home, the mother, who has five children and is expecting a sixth, continued to work at the Hellenic Police Headquarters (GADA) without showing any outward signs of the trauma.
The children have testified before a child psychologist, recounting the nightmare they endured. Forensic evidence is also reportedly available.
This is not the first time the officer has faced accusations of domestic violence.
In February, and again just days before the current complaint, the mother filed reports against her husband for verbal and physical abuse. In the first instance, she withdrew her statement and sought criminal mediation after he threatened suicide.
In the second instance, she was provided with a "panic button" application and additional protection.
Authorities have informed the prosecutor's office, and the children have been transferred to a hospital for medical examination and placed in protective care. A forensic examination of the minors has also been ordered.
This case has sent shockwaves through the Greek police force and the public. It highlights the hidden nature of domestic abuse and the urgent need for better support systems for victims, even within law enforcement agencies.
