Defense Minister Nikos Dendias has been hailed as the most successful member of the Greek government, according to a new Alco poll conducted for Alpha.
The survey reveals strong public approval for Mr. Dendias’ performance, placing him well ahead of his cabinet colleagues Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Minister of Digital Governance, and Adonis Georgiadis, Minister of Development.
Mr. Dendias secured 31% of the vote when respondents were asked to identify the government’s most effective minister, significantly outpacing Mr. Pierrakakis at 11% and Mr. Georgiadis at 8%.
Still, a notable 52% of respondents expressed dissatisfaction with the overall cabinet, choosing "none" when asked to identify a standout minister.
Among voters aligned with New Democracy (ND), Mr. Dendias’ popularity is even more pronounced, with 58% naming him the top performer. Mr. Georgiadis follows with 31%, and Mr. Pierrakakis with 21%.
The poll also highlights public satisfaction in specific policy areas.
The strengthening of the Armed Forces drew the most positive responses, with 49% expressing approval and 39% dissatisfied. However, satisfaction with foreign policy stood at 36%, and just 23% approved of the government’s healthcare efforts, reflecting widespread criticism in this domain.
When asked about Greece’s trajectory, pessimism dominated, with 53% of respondents predicting that 2025 would be worse or equally grim compared to 2024.
Conversely, 43% expressed optimism that conditions would improve or remain stable.
The survey also delved into public attitudes toward social media regulations in light of recent incidents involving dangerous TikTok challenges.
A substantial 72% supported adopting measures similar to Australia’s ban on social media access for individuals under 16, while 18% opposed such restrictions.
The findings underscore the public’s recognition of Mr. Dendias’ leadership in defense and the broader challenges the government faces in addressing public dissatisfaction across critical sectors such as healthcare and social policies.
