A new nationwide poll by GPO for Star TV sheds light on the evolving political scene in Greece, following two significant developments: the resounding re-election of Nikos Androulakis as leader of Pasok, and the exclusion of Stefanos Kasselakis from Syriza’s leadership contest.
The poll highlights the shifting dynamics within Greece's political landscape, as parties face internal changes and prepare for upcoming challenges in the national arena.
According to the survey, New Democracy remains firmly in the lead with 26.5% of voter support, holding a 12.2-point advantage over Pasok, which climbs to second place with 14.3%, up from 11.8% in the previous GPO poll.
Syriza, grappling with internal challenges, has dropped to fifth place, recording 7.6%. The Communist Party (KKE) stands third with 8.3%, followed closely by Greek Solution at 8.1%.
Smaller parties are also making their mark: Voice of Logic holds steady in sixth place with 4.4%, followed by Plefsi Eleftherias at 3.6%, NIKI with 3%, New Left at 2%, and MeRA25 with 1.5%. Notably, 15.7% of voters remain undecided.
In the wake of Mr. Androulakis’ decisive victory, 60.4% of respondents viewed Pasok’s internal election results positively or somewhat positively, while 33.7% expressed a negative or somewhat negative opinion.
Additionally, 48.8% believe Mr. Androulakis will increase Pasok's electoral strength, a view held by 77.3% of Pasok voters.
Within Syriza, 55.4% of respondents disagreed with the Central Committee’s decision to exclude Mr. Kasselakis from the leadership race, while 42% supported the move.
Moreover, 58.6% of Syriza voters believe Mr. Kasselakis should be allowed to run, compared to 37.9% who oppose his candidacy.
