New Democracy (ND) remains Greece's top political choice, according to a recent Opinion Poll survey for Action 24.
The survey places Pasok firmly in second place, driven by Mr. Nikos Androulakis’s re-election as party leader, while Syriza slips to fifth, capturing single-digit support.
In terms of voting intentions, ND leads with 23.7%, followed by Pasok at 16.2%, and Syriza at just 5.2%. Projected results for the next election show ND with a 9.4 percentage point lead over Pasok, receiving 29.8% of the vote compared to Pasok's 20.4%, while Syriza remains far behind at 6.6%.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis leads strongly in the poll on preferred prime minister, with 30.8% backing him as the most suitable leader. Mr. Androulakis follows with 9.5% support, while other political figures such as Mr. Dimitris Koutsoumbas, Mr. Kyriakos Velopoulos, and Ms. Zoe Konstantopoulou register lower in the rankings. Notably, 31.5% of respondents selected “None,” signaling considerable public uncertainty or dissatisfaction with current leadership choices.
In terms of party leadership approval, Mr. Androulakis emerges as a favorite following his re-election. Within Syriza, however, confidence is declining: 45.8% of respondents believe the party’s era has ended, citing its struggle to transition from its financial crisis origins to a relevant contemporary role.
When Syriza supporters were asked about their party’s internal challenges, 27% attributed it to Syriza's crisis-born origins and an inability to evolve, 21% pointed to persistent leadership disputes, and 19% noted the lack of post-election reflection and strategy.
Public perception of Syriza’s future is grim, with 77.5% of respondents anticipating further losses, while only 15% see a possible revival. Even among Syriza's own supporters, 59% foresee ongoing struggles, while 33% are hopeful for a comeback.
These results highlight significant hurdles for Syriza in regaining public confidence, while ND and Pasok solidify their positions in Greece's political landscape. Syriza's path forward appears fraught with internal challenges, with declining public trust amplifying the need for recalibration within the party.
