Two boats almost crashed near the islands of Kefalonia and Ithaca.
The luxury yacht and the tourist boat, Nidristar1, were both on course toward each other. Despite Nidristar1 having the right of way, neither captain altered their path to avoid a collision.
The two vessels continued moving toward each other until they were just inches apart, causing panic among the passengers on board.
Many were terrified, bracing themselves for a crash that seemed inevitable. At the last moment, the yacht managed to pass behind the tourist boat, narrowly avoiding a collision.
A passenger on Nidristar1 shared the terrifying experience, saying, "We had the right of way, but the yacht didn't change its course. Our captain didn’t slow down or change direction, even though he was responsible for the safety of everyone on board. It felt like we were just seconds away from a disaster."
The incident highlights the importance of following maritime safety rules.
Both captains had a responsibility to ensure the safety of their passengers, and this near-miss serves as a reminder of the dangers that can arise when those rules aren't strictly followed.
All vessels must respect navigational guidelines to prevent such terrifying incidents on the water.
