Notable participants included Nobel laureate Demis Hassabis, founder of DeepMind, and his team. During the session, Mr. Mitsotakis presented Greece's national plan for the transition to artificial intelligence, recently delivered by the advisory committee on AI.
He emphasized that the next step for the Greek government is to begin implementing the plan. Mr. Mitsotakis stated that Greece is at the forefront of the international conversation on AI, especially in addressing the philosophical and regulatory challenges surrounding its use within the European Union.
The workshop also explored the future of AI, with discussions on potential advancements and various AI applications already in use by the UK government. A key takeaway from the meeting was the consensus that governments must embrace AI responsibly, leveraging its potential while remaining vigilant about the societal risks it may present.
Mr. Mitsotakis underscored the ethical considerations of AI, emphasizing the importance of using data within a regulated and secure framework to ensure its safe evolution.
The meeting was attended by Greek Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou, State Minister Akis Skertsos, and the Special Secretary for Long-Term Planning and Coordinator of the Advisory Committee on AI, Giannis Mastroyorgiou.
The discussions represented a significant step in Greece’s efforts to position itself as a leader in AI policy and governance, both within the EU and globally.
