Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will travel to Cairo to participate in the 10th Greece-Egypt-Cyprus Trilateral Summit.
Mitsotakis will have a bilateral meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at 11:45. At 12:30, the leaders of the three countries will meet, followed by extended talks between the delegations. At 14:20 the leaders will make statements to the press.
The Greek-Egyptian-Cypriot leaders are expected to send a message on the strategic importance of their cooperation, which is a pivot of stability in a period of upheaval in the Middle East and amidst regional and international crises. They will also enhance cooperation in the fields of energy and energy security. Among the issues to be discussed are regional developments and the situation in Syria.
Mitsotakis' last visit to Cairo took place in March 2024, as part of a joint visit with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European leaders for the signing of the EU-Egypt Strategic and Partnership Agreement. For this agreement, Greece took the lead in stressing the strategic importance of Egypt's stability for Europe, as well as the importance of Cairo in curbing migratory flows to European countries.
