Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced a new scholarship program to honor Ionas Karussis, a 26-year-old Greek student killed in a shooting attack in Jaffa, Tel Aviv.

The initiative, revealed during Mr. Mitsotakis’ visit to Jerusalem, aims to bolster academic and cultural ties between Greece and Israel by offering educational opportunities to students from both countries.

During the meeting, Mr. Mitsotakis called for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages and expressed hope for a swift ceasefire in Gaza, viewing it as crucial for a long-term resolution.

Mr. Herzog underscored Israel’s deep concerns regarding the hostages and emphasized the international community’s responsibility to secure their return.

With the upcoming Eid al-Fitr celebrations, Mr. Herzog expressed hope that the occasion could facilitate a humanitarian breakthrough.

He described the release of hostages as a moral imperative and a necessary act of goodwill.

Reflecting on the loss of Karussis, Mr. Herzog expressed appreciation for Greece’s solidarity and Mr. Mitsotakis’ personal support for the victim’s family.
