Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in his first Facebook post for the new year, stressed that 2024 was a landmark for Greek business, "as according to the General Commercial Register (GEMI) data, 64,262 new businesses were founded, recording an 11% increase compared to 2023.
This is the highest level in recent years, with an overall increase of 50% compared to 2020."
Mitsotakis said it is further proof that the Greek economy is on the path to recovery. "Every business that has gone out for retirement or conversion to a new structure is replaced by three new ones. In fact, the number of businesses that are closing down has decreased by 11% compared to last year. Sectors such as retail and wholesale trade, catering, tourism, and technical professions continue to lead the way. At the same time, the strengthening of industry and manufacturing, whose contribution in 2024 was also significant, remains a strategic goal of the government," he stressed. As Mitsotakis said, this course is not accidental; it is the result of everyone's effort: the government building a stable and friendly environment for investment and Greek entrepreneurs who continue to innovate and move forward.
"2025 starts with optimism and momentum. Our commitment is to further improve the business and investment environment by further strengthening infrastructure, further reducing bureaucracy, and ensuring that every new idea finds the right ground to grow. So I hope that 2025 will be an equally successful year!"
