Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis, in an interview with Talk Radio on Thursday, said "that what Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is trying to do as prime minister is to take the country a step further."

He said the aim was for Greece "to start being a European country" and, after having succeeded in a time of uncertainty when almost nothing could be taken for granted, for "Greece to be a bright exception of stability and progress, despite the many problems we still have to face."

Regarding the upcoming election of the new president of Greece, Marinakis underlined that "we will have announcements in the second half of January, as the prime minister has promised. Only the prime minister knows the specific date when he will announce his proposal for President, whether this is (current president) Katerina Sakellaropoulou or another person. What is certain is that the President of Republic should symbolise unity."
