Government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis in an interview on Wednesday on SKAI 100.3 radio station referred to the decision to close the Greek embassy in Kiev, stressing that it is a move for precautionary reasons.
"Other countries have done it with their embassies. There are staff, as we speak, in the embassy for security reasons. There is also a shelter in the building so that it can be used by the staff if necessary," he added.
Asked about Antonis Samaras' statement that his removal was a premeditated decision, Marinakis replied that the complete opposite is true. He added that it was taken after reading Samaras' interview with the newspaper "Vima". He recalled the government's reactions to other speeches and reports by Samaras on which no comment was made by the government. Marinakis stressed that Samaras had the special privilege of expressing his views and objections.
