Major developments have unfolded in the investigation of the murder of a 54-year-old surveyor in Psychiko, with the arrest of a Greek man previously involved in a high-profile kidnapping case that captivated public attention.

The arrest comes after analysis of the victim’s mobile phone by the Criminal Investigation Department and corroborating witness testimonies.

The country’s Homicide Division is diligently gathering incriminating evidence to formally charge the suspect, working closely with prosecutorial authorities to secure an arrest warrant, officials with knowledge of the investigation have said,

Police sources suggest that the order for the murder may have come from an individual with long-standing criminal activities on the island of Mykonos. Initial findings indicate the victim had received threatening messages from at least two individuals, further implicating them in the ongoing investigation.

Despite the threats, investigators have yet to find conclusive evidence directly linking the senders to the murder.

Still, police sources believe they have a "strong investigative picture" of the potential perpetrator and their motives, which appear to be a mix of professional and personal disputes.

In the course of the investigation, police have taken numerous statements, including nine from Athens and six from Mykonos. Additional testimonies were collected from attendees at the victim’s funeral, including two from Mykonos and one from the victim's spouse.

No official statements have directly implicated any specific individual, though many have pointed to a particular person in unofficial discussions.

Police have mapped out the movements of the suspect, dubbed the "lone wolf," using video surveillance footage for at least a kilometre after the murder.

The footage shows the assailant monitoring the victim's movements for days, familiarising himself with the victim's schedule, and waiting 52 minutes at the crime scene before executing the attack with two 9mm pistols to ensure the murder was carried out without a hitch.

The suspect’s nonchalant behaviour suggests he was unconcerned about arousing suspicion. He had been seen near the victim's home in Chalandri and the technical company offices in Psychiko in the days leading up to the murder.

Footage obtained by Star TV shows the suspect shortly before the attack, confirming the methodical nature of the crime.

According to iefimerida.gr, the assailant had been tracking the victim for at least three days, knowing his every move. Authorities describe the attack as meticulously planned, targeting the moment when the victim parked his electric car at a regular charging spot in Psychiko.

The attacker struck precisely as the victim parked, ensuring the highest chance of success.

A video published by in.gr captures the killer on a scooter, nervously manoeuvring around a store sign just moments before the execution. This footage further solidifies the evidence against the suspect, depicting his actions leading up to the fatal encounter with the 54-year-old surveyor.

The investigation continues as authorities work to build a solid case against the suspect and uncover the full extent of the motives and connections behind this calculated murder.
