A 59-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a violent domestic assault that left a 58-year-old woman severely injured in central Athens, police said.
Officers responding to an emergency call on Mylon Street found the victim with visible wounds to her face and neck.
Authorities said the woman told police that after a heated argument, her partner attempted to strangle her with his bare hands, preventing her from breathing.
He then repeatedly punched her in the face, causing heavy bleeding, dragged her by the hair, and threw her to the ground before dragging her across the apartment.
The suspect was arrested at the scene and later appeared before a prosecutor.
The case has renewed concerns about domestic violence in Greece, where incidents remain prevalent but are often underreported.
Greek police have faced increased pressure in recent years to improve their handling of such cases, following a series of high-profile femicides and public calls for stronger protections and swifter legal action for victims.
