A 49-year-old man was arrested by police of the Special Crimes of Violence Directorate on Thursday afternoon on a warrant that connects him to the cache of arms and explosives found in the Pangrati section of Athens.
The cache was discovered on Tuesday in a storage space by the owner, who alerted the police.
According to information, the 49-year-old man was responsible for paying the rent on the storage space in the apartment building. He teaches literature and language at a frontistirio and has a clean police record.
The storage space contained among others 3 hand grenades, a submachine gun, 6 firearms and related accessories, 25 detonators, and 10 kilos of explosives (including 7.5 kilos of ammonia dynamite). A bomb squad had been called in to handle the findings, while the Directorate for Special Crimes of Violence is investigating.
