In outlining his administration’s goals, Mr. Mitsotakis highlighted wage increases, healthcare reforms, and housing as key priorities.

By 2027, he aims for the average wage in Greece to reach €1,500 and the minimum wage to rise to €950.

He also promised major upgrades to the National Health System (NHS), including better-equipped health centers and better pay for doctors.

“By 2027, I want to be judged on whether the country has a new NHS worthy of its citizens,” he said.

Additionally, the Prime Minister announced financial support for vulnerable groups, funded by extraordinary taxation on refineries.

Retirees with a combined pension income of up to €1,600 will receive a bonus of €100 to €200, and those on disability benefits will get €200.

He also confirmed a 50% increase in the minimum guaranteed income for December.

Tackling Inflation and Housing Issues
On the issue of inflation, Mitsotakis expressed optimism, predicting that prices would stabilize as inflation continues to decline in Greece.

He also recognized housing as a major concern for renters and committed to ongoing government intervention until citizens’ disposable incomes improve.

Measures include special Christmas support for vulnerable groups, who, as he stated, remain a “top priority” for his government.

Addressing Energy Prices and the European Market
Mr. Mitsotakis also addressed the ongoing energy crisis, pointing to market distortions in Eastern Europe.

He announced his plan to write to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen regarding high electricity bills, describing the situation as a serious issue in need of urgent attention.

Presidential Election and Broader Political Strategy
When asked about potential candidates for Greece’s presidency, Mr. Mitsotakis refused to engage in speculation, calling it “disrespectful” to the current President, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, and premature.

He pledged to honor her and the office, refraining from further comments until early next year.

He also stated that his government would seek broad political consensus when nominating a new President but noted that the updated electoral law prevents the risk of snap elections due to a failure to elect a president.

Criticism of Opposition Parties
Mr. Mitsotakis did not hold back on his criticism of opposition parties.

Referring to internal struggles within Syriza, he described the party as being in “political paralysis” and attacked Pasok for opposing key government reforms, despite branding itself as a progressive party.

European Elections and Housing Initiatives
Responding to questions about the European election results, Mr. Mitsotakis dismissed claims of “reform fatigue” and rejected suggestions that the results were bad for ND. He acknowledged that the results were “below expectations” but maintained that ND remains the dominant political force in Greece.

Finally, he discussed the government’s housing strategy, promising more opportunities for affordable housing and continued support for vulnerable groups.
