Syriza leader Stefanos Kasselakis has launched a sharp counterattack against the group of "87" party members, accusing them of orchestrating a plan to discredit the party ahead of its upcoming conference.
Following a tense meeting of the Political Secretariat, Kasselakis took to social media, demanding that the "87" reveal their true intentions immediately.
Earlier, the "87" responded to Kasselakis's previous remarks, stating that they would let his insults be judged by Syriza members, supporters, and the broader progressive community in Greece.
In response, Mr. Kasselakis claimed that there is a deliberate effort to undermine Syriza aiming to discourage its supporters and dissolve the party into a vague "Center-Left" entity, led by a figure chosen by vested interests.
Mr. Kasselakis emphasized his role as the leader of all Syriza members, not just a specific faction, and his duty to preserve the dignity of the party and its supporters.
He warned that he would not allow the party's hopes to be destroyed in the run-up to the conference.
He reaffirmed his commitment to pushing forward with reforms at the upcoming conference, which he believes will bring significant changes.
Mr. Kasselakis stated that SYRIZA must either evolve into a party driven by its members, citizens, and an open society, or risk becoming irrelevant.
He called on everyone to respect the party's supporters, who are anxious about its future, and not to drag them down with personal ambitions.
Mr. Kasselakis concluded by asserting that despite internal efforts to discredit the party, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis still fears one opponent: SYRIZA, the party of its members and supporters.
