The Hellenic Post (ELTA) is celebrating the artistry of three iconic stamp designers with its first stamp series of 2025. The series pays tribute to Dimitrios Biskinis, Yiannis Kefallinos, and Tassos Alevizos, whose innovative designs shaped the history of Greek philately.
"These artists helped define the art of Greek stamp design," said a ELTA spokesperson. "Their work continues to inspire philatelists and art enthusiasts around the world."
Dimitrios Biskinis, known for his mythological and religious themes, created the award-winning "Mythological" series in 1935, which was recognized as the most beautiful stamp series in the world at the Buenos Aires International Philatelic Congress in 1951.
Yiannis Kefallinos, a pioneer of Greek engraving, designed the "75 Years of UPU" series, which also garnered international acclaim for its beauty and artistry.
Tassos Alevizos revolutionized Greek stamp design with his vibrant, multicolored woodcuts inspired by ancient Greek and Byzantine art. His work was so influential that Greek stamp history is often divided into two eras: before and after Tassos.
The "Iconic Creators of Greek Stamps" series includes a numbered collectible sheet, a First Day Cover, and a complete set pack. Collectors can learn more about these influential artists by scanning a QR code provided with the stamps.
This tribute honors the enduring legacy of these three designers, whose artistic contributions continue to be celebrated by collectors and art enthusiasts alike.
