The Greek economy's growth and the government's reforms are benefiting 2.5 million Greeks, Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis told ANT1 TV on Tuesday.
In an interview, the former finance minister said that the state budget of 2024 had the best fiscal performance at least since 1995, the point at which comparable date exists. This, he underlined, is a success both of the government and of the Greek people, and strengthens the country's position in relation to the markets and investors, especially during turbulent times due to the tariff crisis.
Hatzidakis was referring to a primary surplus confirmed by Eurostat the same day that led to announcements by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for benefits to renters and low-income pensioners.
"We therefore provided a social dividend that is based on growth and the government's initiatives. And these benefit nearly 2.5 million Greeks in one way or another through these measures. So the government's work is visible. And I am happy that my personal efforts and those of my colleagues over two years at the Finance Ministry led to these results," he said.
