A Greek truck driver has been shot and arrested by Turkish police at the Ipsala border station, authorities have said.
They said the driver, who has a history of psychiatric disorders, allegedly injured a Turkish national riding a motorcycle at the border crossing on Tuesday before approaching Turkish police officers with a sharp object.
Turkish authorities said police fired two warning shots into the air before shooting the driver in the leg. The injured Turkish national and the Greek driver were both taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The incident has raised concerns about the use of force by Turkish police and the potential implications for bilateral relations between Greece and Turkey.
An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances leading up to the shooting.
