Greece's tourism sector is on track for a record-breaking year, with Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni projecting revenue to exceed €20 billion in 2024.
In an interview with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, Kefalogianni expressed confidence in the industry's continued growth, highlighting the success of strategies to extend the tourism season.
"We are already seeing tangible results," she stated, pointing to strong performance in the first five months of the year and continued momentum through September and October.
"The year 2024 is poised to become a new record-breaking milestone for Greek tourism."
Kefalogianni also noted promising early indicators for 2025 and emphasized the Ministry's commitment to strengthening Greece's competitiveness in the global tourism market.
This includes enhancing the country's image and expanding into new markets.
The Minister highlighted recent legislative initiatives, including new regulations for short-term rentals aimed at ensuring safety and quality.
"For the first time, we are establishing a framework of minimum operational and safety standards," she explained.
Kefalogianni also praised the innovative hotel classification system included in the new tourism bill, which evaluates hotels based on their environmental performance.
"This globally unique system incorporates sustainability principles and provides businesses with tools to boost their visibility and competitiveness," she said.
With these initiatives and the continued growth of the tourism sector, Greece is well-positioned to maintain its strong performance in the years to come.
