The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) is intensifying its efforts to combat tax evasion among freelancers in Greece.
Data from tax returns reveal widespread underreporting of income, prompting the AADE to implement stricter measures.
Starting in October 2024, freelancers will face stricter rules regarding expense deductions. The allowable variance between declared expenses and those recorded in the myDATA system will be significantly reduced, eventually reaching zero.
This means that expenses not logged in myDATA will no longer be eligible for tax deductions.
Additionally, the AADE is introducing a new digital client register for certain professionals, requiring them to electronically log their clients' details.
This measure aims to increase transparency and prevent revenue concealment.
The AADE is also urging freelancers to register with the IRIS payment system by September 30, 2024. Failure to do so may result in fines.
These measures are part of the AADE's broader efforts to reduce the tax gap and increase tax revenue in Greece.
