Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will arrive in France on Monday to participate in a high-stakes Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Summit.
Also, he will hold talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, as global leaders scramble to shape policies for the rapidly evolving technology.
Mr. Mitsotakis is set to attend the AI summit in Paris, a gathering of international leaders and experts aimed at coordinating regulatory and ethical frameworks for AI development.
The meeting comes amid rising concerns over misinformation, cybersecurity, and the economic disruption caused by advances in automation and machine learning.
On Monday afternoon, the Greek leader will meet one-on-one with Macron at the Élysée Palace, where the two are expected to discuss bilateral ties, European Union strategies on AI governance, and shared challenges such as climate change and migration.
The talks underscore France’s role as a key advocate for stricter EU-wide tech regulations.
The summit marks Greece’s latest push to position itself as a proactive player in Europe’s digital transformation. Mr. Mitsotakis has previously emphasized AI’s potential to boost economic growth but has also called for safeguards against its risks.
Mr. Macron, a vocal proponent of European “strategic autonomy” in technology, is likely to seek alignment with Greece on initiatives to reduce reliance on foreign AI systems. The leaders may also address ongoing collaborations in defense and energy.
The event follows the EU’s landmark AI Act, passed in March 2024, which established the world’s first comprehensive legal framework for artificial intelligence.
Both France and Greece supported the legislation, which bans certain high-risk AI applications while promoting innovation.
No joint press conference is expected after the meeting, but Mitsotakis’ office stated he will return to Athens on Monday evening.
