Greek Foreign Minister Mr. Giorgos Gerapetritis met with his Turkish counterpart, Mr. Hakan Fidan, during his visit to Qatar, the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
According to diplomatic sources, the meeting, which took place in a positive atmosphere, focused on the upcoming Supreme Cooperation Council between Greece and Turkey, set to be held in Ankara in the near future.
The two ministers agreed to continue working together to maintain the constructive environment through structured dialogue, including Political Dialogue, Positive Agenda, and Confidence-Building Measures (CBMs).
The Cyprus issue was also discussed, with preparations for an expanded meeting scheduled in the near future. Additionally, the Greek side raised concerns over ongoing investigations regarding the electric interconnection projects.
On regional matters, Mr. Gerapetritis and Mr. Fidan exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East, ahead of the Greek minister's upcoming regional tour.
Mr. Gerapetritis is one of the first European Union foreign ministers to visit the region following the ceasefire in Gaza.
Earlier on Sunday, Mr. Gerapetritis had met with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
Mr. Gerapetritis will continue his Middle East trip, with a visit to Israel on Monday, February 3, where he is scheduled to meet with Israeli Foreign Minister Mr. Gideon Saar.
He will then travel to Ramallah to meet with Palestinian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Mohammad Mustafa. Mr. Gerapetritis will also meet with His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem.
On Tuesday, February 4, Mr. Gerapetritis will visit Jordan, where he will be received by King Abdullah II and will meet with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Ayman Safadi.
