Greece’s Finance Minister Kostis Hatzidakis has outlined a roadmap for how government initiatives will improve the lives of citizens in 2025.
Sharing his vision through a TikTok post, Mr. Hatzidakis detailed nine key sectors poised for positive transformation, emphasizing growth, equity, and modernization as central themes of the government’s agenda.
Wages are a major focus of the plan, with the minimum wage set to rise again in April. The government is committed to achieving a minimum wage of €950 and an average wage of €1,500 by 2027.
Additionally, pensions, which have been unfrozen in recent years, will increase in line with inflation, offering much-needed relief to retirees.
Job creation is another cornerstone of the government’s strategy. Mr. Hatzidakis predicts unemployment will drop below 10% in 2025 for the first time in 15 years, with at least 30,000 new jobs expected to be created that year.
Meanwhile, inflation is forecasted to drop to 2.1%, with food prices already tracking below the European Union average.
The fight against tax evasion will intensify through the full implementation of digital systems like myDATA and electronic invoicing. According to Mr. Hatzidakis, these tools serve dual purposes: promoting social justice and paving the way for further tax reductions.
Consumers and borrowers will also see relief.
The government has pledged to lower bank fees, with lending rates expected to follow a downward trend. Healthcare funding is set to increase by 75% compared to 2019, ensuring the modernization of hospitals and clinics across the country.
Infrastructure development remains a priority, with key projects such as the second phase of Thessaloniki’s metro system and the completion of the national land registry on track. Housing initiatives under the “My Home 2” program will help ease accommodation challenges, while the launch of Greece’s first private universities in September marks a groundbreaking development for the nation’s educational landscape.
“These improvements are not the result of magical solutions,” Mr. Hatzidakis noted, emphasizing the importance of consistent effort and sound policy. “We’ve paid the price for magical recipes in the past and will not return to them.”
The government’s ambitious agenda for 2025 reflects its commitment to balancing economic growth with social justice, positioning Greece as a model for sustainable progress in the region.
